Mission
Dark Flock: Goods for the Long Night.
Somewhere along the way, being in public turned into being on record. A camera went up on the pole by the grocery store. A drone took off from the station roof. The license plate readers came in through a contract most people never got to vote on. None of it asked first.
We think ordinary people should be able to walk to work, go to a meeting, or stand on a sidewalk with a sign without being logged, sorted, and filed away. Keeping your face to yourself isn't suspicious. It's how things worked for most of history.
What we sell
Plain black gear for people who'd rather not be noticed: balaclavas, masks and gaiters, hoods, caps, ponchos, rain shells, packs, and gloves. No logos, no slogans, nothing that makes you a billboard. It's also just good gear for cold nights, wet commutes, and long shifts.
The shelf is short on purpose. Fewer things, each one picked for the night it's meant for.
What we won't tell you
We won't tell you a mask makes you invisible. It doesn't. Testing shows that covering your face makes you harder to match, not anonymous, and plenty of other things give you away, starting with the phone in your pocket. Our Field Notes explain what actually works and what doesn't, with sources.
Some states and cities restrict face coverings at protests or in certain places. Know your local rules before you go.
What we don't do
We don't run ad trackers, and we don't sell your information. No pixels, no tracking cookies, no customer lists handed to ad networks. It would be strange to sell privacy gear any other way.
How it works
Dark Flock is a small shop with one person behind the counter. Every order is placed by hand and watched until it lands. Every email gets answered by a person, not a ticket queue.
The order is ours. If something goes wrong, you talk to us, and we deal with the rest.
We're not affiliated with DeFlock.org, despite the similar name, but we're glad they exist.
